Isaiah 58 Ministries

If you remove the yoke from among you, the pointing of the finger, the speaking of evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. . . Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to live in.”     (Isaiah 58:9b-12)

Our congregation has been committed to urban outreach ministry for many years. In 1970, we discerned that the needs of our area of the city were so great that no one congregation could reach out as effectively and faithfully as congregations working together. That is when four of neighborhood congregations came together to begin an ecumenical urban ministry. Then it was called the Four Church Association, and later the Five Church Association. Now it is Isaiah 58 Ministries (Isaiah 58) and is supported in various ways by congregations across the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Isaiah 58 is one of our primary ways of caring for those in our community who are in need. From it’s inception until 2025, Isaiah 58 was housed at the Compton Heights Christian Church building on Grand Avenue. Our congregation collects non-perishable foods each Sunday for the Isaiah 58 Food Pantry. We collect clothing for the Thrift Store, give financially to support other aspects of the ministry, and share in the hands-on work with those served by Isaiah 58 when needed and possible.

You may donate non-perishable foods, clothing, and your time and talent. Volunteers are the life blood of Isaiah 58. Go to the Isaiah 58’s website for more information on their ministries and how you can help.
