Week of Compassion 2026 Special Offering

A New Way

When he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. So many gathered around that there was no longer room for them, not even in front of the door, and he was speaking the word to them. Then some people came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. And when they could not bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and after having dug through it, they let down the mat on which the paralytic lay. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Child, your sins are forgiven.” (Mark 2: 1 – 5)

This fall, the Week of Compassion Board of Stewards gathered in San Diego, at the edge of a border where human lives and holy stories meet. There, they were reminded that displacement is not only about geography; it is about loss and resilience, faith and rebuilding. Whether caused by poverty, violence, persecution, or disaster, displacement reveals both the deep wounds of the world and the courage of those who refuse to give up home.

Whether rebuilding after a flood, responding to disaster, helping build a more equitable world or recovering from economic hardship, Week of Compassion is finding A NEW WAY – a way rooted in relationship, equity, and hope. Together, we are strengthening the church’s long-term capacity to respond and accompany, wherever people are displaced or in need. The gifts you give make an impact around the world, ensuring that vulnerable communities are held at the center of the work, and strengthening congregations and partners to respond.

Week of Compassion is a ministry of the whole Church, serving vulnerable communities throughout the world. Any time and anywhere we respond to a need, we bear witness to the unity of the Lord’s Table, faithfully sharing the gifts that we have received as an expression of Christ’s love. As we work with partners, we represent the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) commitment to unity, allowing our resources and responses to reach farther, growing our impact on a global scale.

Compton Celebrates Pride

Compton’s Open and Affirming statement reads in part: “…The ministry of this congregation extends to and includes all persons. We are God’s people of differing races, cultures, abilities, gender identities, sexual orientations and stages of life and health. We celebrate the gifts and the faith perspectives that come with our varied life experiences. To live and minister together in this broad community helps us to know the wideness of God’s love and mercy. “ (Full text of Compton’s Open and Affirming Statement)

As an Open and Affirming Congregation, Compton participates in PrideFest St. Louis and Tower Grove Pride.  Since 2003 Compton’s booth has offered an opportunity for LGBTQ+ people to talk about faith and to possibly find a welcoming church home in the community. In June, 2025, Compton joined with other St. Louis area Open and Affirming Disciples of Christ, United Church of Christ, Episcopal and Metropolitan Community Church congregations, to sponsor a booth at PrideFest St. Louis. Compton has a booth at Tower Grove Pride in September each year. Come by and visit us at the our booth at PrideFest St. Louis in June, at Compton’s Booth at Tower Grove Pride in September or on any Sunday morning. We worship at 11:00 am in the sanctuary and live stream worship on our Facebook page.

The Psalmist writes “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Pslm 139:13-14. We are all fully human, created in the love of God, with gifts of life to share in God’s world.  Come explore faith and life in this community of God’s people.
